Gay & Queer Weddings, Elopements and Proposals across the Riviera Maya

The Lovebites is a fully inclusive, LGBTQ+-friendly space, and I (Polly) absolutely love photographing same-sex, queer and non-binary weddings.

After years working as a fashion designer I can say without a doubt that some of my favourite humans are part of the LGBTQ+ community. I worked for Jean Paul Gaultier for goodness sake!

I love photographing gay and queer couples. From one of my best friend’s DIY wedding in Paris, to a lesbian beach proposal and spontaneous same-sex elopements in Cancun and the Riviera Maya, here are some of my most recent same-sex weddings, elopements and proposals.

Mexico is considered very gay-friendly for weddings. Same-sex marriage is legal across the whole of Mexico, and Mexico City was the first city in Latin America to allow same-sex couples to marry and to have the same rights as heterosexual couples.

Although Mexico is a Catholic country, the country’s most popular destination wedding locations, including Tulum, Playa del Carmen and Cancún, are known for being welcoming, diverse and LGBTQ+-friendly. Long before colonisation, Mexico was also home to rich traditions of gender diversity, including the Muxe community of Oaxaca, whose culture continues to thrive today.

Whether you’re two brides, two grooms or just two humans getting married, I’m so happy for you!
