A Contemporary Wedding in Mérida

Some weddings have a clear sense of style from the very beginning, and this colorful contemporary wedding in Mérida was one of them. Every detail felt intentional, from the sculptural florals and playful retro-inspired touches to the minimalist fashion and graphic reception design. Rather than following the traditional hacienda wedding aesthetic often associated with the Yucatán, this celebration embraced bold colour, modern styling, and a personality all its own.

Two Beautiful Mérida Wedding Venues

The morning began at Casa Vagantes Montejo, a beautifully restored house just off Paseo de Montejo. Its weathered walls, original architecture, and thoughtfully curated interiors created an effortlessly editorial backdrop for getting ready. Photographed on both film and digital, these quiet moments had a timeless quality that perfectly complemented the couple’s understated style.

Later, friends and family gathered at Casa Kokay for an intimate civil ceremony surrounded by lush gardens on the outskirts of Mérida. Disco balls, sculptural florals, a graphic dance floor, and vibrant colour transformed the space into a celebration that felt contemporary, relaxed, and unmistakably fun. Every design choice reflected the couple’s personality while remaining elegant and timeless.

Photographed on Film & Digital

As a Mérida wedding photographer, I’m drawn to weddings that feel authentic to the people celebrating them. Whether it’s an intimate civil ceremony, a destination wedding in Mexico, or a multi-day celebration, my approach is always the same: documenting the day honestly while creating natural, editorial photographs that never feel over-directed.

Photographing weddings on both film and digital allows me to combine the timeless character of analogue photography with the flexibility of digital, preserving not only how the day looked but how it felt.

If you’re planning a wedding in Mérida, the Yucatán, or anywhere in Mexico and are looking for photography that feels modern, relaxed, and true to you, I’d love to hear about your plans.
