Love, Dancing, & Sunset Hues – Amansala Tulum Wedding

I met A+S a week before their wedding on the beach at Amansala Tulum. They’d just arrived the day before and were already telling me how they’d been dancing their asses off ever since. Tulum is front and center in their love story. It’s their escape — a place to let loose and dance all night long.

They planned what I’d call a “nano wedding”—even smaller than a micro wedding—with just 13 guests. A tight-knit group of family and close friends, it was as intimate and authentic. Their ceremony was officiated by a friend they’d met on a rave message board in Tulum the year before. Everything about their day was 100% true to them, and full of love.

A few bits of useful info for anyone planning an Amansala Tulum wedding: The ceremony was actually held at the Amansala’s sister property, Chica. A super cute property, Amansala Chica is quieter than the main beach club, with a cozy wooden bar and architectural arches around the pool. The staff did an amazing job of turning the venue around from beach club vibes to a wedding location. The ceremony started an hour and a half before sunset which was perfect for January. I love to have direct sun on the couple during Tulum wedding ceremonies to see the beautiful blue of the ocean. The shadows were just touching the bride and grooms feet by the time they sealed the deal and kissed.

On the wide stretch of beach with perfect clean sand we had plenty of time for hugs, and couples portraits using the last rays of sunlight. As the sun goes down the sky changes pretty much every 15 minutes. I really encourage couples to have enough time to document the change of light from day to night. Even if you’re having a small celebration, be sure to have enough time to capture day turning to dusk, it’s the most dynamic time for light. In Tulum, where the ocean is far from the buildings, and the buildings are low-rise anyway, you can really appreciate all the colors that the sky can throw at you: blue skies, golden haze, pink perfect sunset and stunning blue hour.

Cheers to A+S for writing your own rules and owning every moment—may your journey together always feel this free.
