Akumal Photography FAQs
What kind of photo sessions do you offer in Akumal?
I photograph couples, families, individuals, maternity/babymoon sessions, surprise proposals, weddings, and “trash the dress” sessions. I also photograph family reunions, yoga and wellness retreats, birthday dinners, and other celebrations around Akumal.
How do I book a session?
Booking is simple:
Step 1: Send me a message through my contact form with your dates, location, and how many people are in your group.
Step 2: I’ll confirm availability and send you timing and logistical details.
Step 3: When you’re ready, I’ll send a digital contract (easy to sign on your phone) and request a 25% retainer to secure your date. Once both are completed, you’re officially booked.
How do I receive my photos?
Your photos are delivered via a private online gallery in high resolution. You can easily download your images, share the gallery with family and friends, and print using the professional lab of your choice.
What is the best time of day for an Akumal portrait session?
In the Riviera Maya, the best light for photography is usually within 2 hours of sunrise or sunset. Because Akumal is on the east coast, the sun doesn’t set over the ocean, and nearby buildings and trees can create shade on the beach earlier in the day. While shade is cool and easier on the eyes we some sunlight is ideal for those dreamy Caribbean colors.
With over 10 years living in Akumal, I can recommend the best start time for your session based on your exact location. And yes — there is a beach where you can see the sun set over the water on a clear day… but shhhh it’s a secret!
What payment options do you offer?
The retainer is paid online using the same methods you normally use: credit/debit card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. Your remaining balance is due on the day of your session. I accept cash, card (3.6% fee), bank transfer, or Wise.
Please note: We don’t have Venmo or Zelle in Mexico, and my system doesn’t support AMEX. All other cards work without issue.
What happens if the weather isn’t good?
Weather here is notoriously unpredictable, so don’t panic if your weather app shows rain. Conditions can change quickly, sometimes within minutes or even a mile apart.
I monitor weather using Windy and Windguru, and since I live in Akumal, I can also assess conditions in real time. If needed, I’ll do my best to adjust timing or reschedule. Often, holding your nerve pays off, the beach after rain is clean, beautiful, and quiet.
